Automatic Water Treatment: Bayrol Salt Electrolyser & pH Controller

Enjoying your pool is great. Having to analyze the water and handle chlorine pebbles every three days is a hassle. Poorly balanced water stings the eyes, damages swimwear and can turn green in 24 hours.

At Astro Piscines, we’ve been installing Bayrol automatic treatment systems in Geneva and Vaud for over 15 years. The result: healthy, soft, crystal-clear water, effortlessly.

Why automate your pool treatment?

Manual water treatment requires an average of 1 to 2 hours per week: photometer tests, addition of pebbles, pH correction… And despite all these efforts, the risk of imbalance remains, especially in hot weather.

  • Time-saving: The system automatically measures and adjusts chlorine and pH, 24 hours a day.
  • Bathing comfort: No more red eyes, no more “bleach” smell. The water is soft and pleasant.
  • Savings: Precise dosing = less wasted product. Up to 30% savings on consumables.
  • Sanitary safety: disinfection is constant, even when you’re away or on vacation.
  • Remote control: the Bayrol Smart & Easy application alerts you in the event of a problem.

Salt electrolysis: The preferred solution in French-speaking Switzerland

The salt water chlorinator is currently the most popular technology among our customers in Geneva and Vaud. And with good reason: it combines efficiency, ecology and incomparable bathing comfort.

How does a salt chlorinator work?

The principle is simple and natural:

  • A small amount of salt is added to the pool (about 4 g/L, 7 times less than seawater).
  • The water passes through an electrolysis cell equipped with titanium plates.
  • Under the effect of an electric current, salt (NaCl) is transformed into natural chlorine.
  • This chlorine disinfects the water, then turns back into salt under the action of UV light. It’s a perpetual cycle.

Liquid chlorine + pH control: Absolute precision

Salt electrolysis is not suitable for all situations. For indoor pools, spas or pools with salt-sensitive materials (certain linings, natural stone coping), we recommend the Bayrol Automatic Cl-pH system.

Bayrol Automatic Cl-pH: Specifications

  • Liquid chlorine injection: micro-doses of disinfectant are injected with surgical precision, according to actual demand.
  • Integrated pH control: The secret of clear water is a stable pH of 7.2. The device automatically injects pH corrector (pH+ or pH-).
  • Immediate response: In hot weather or intensive bathing, the system reacts instantly to maintain disinfection.
  • Compatible with all pools: Works with all types of liners and all pool sizes.

Annual operating cost

Once installed, automatic processing costs less than manual processing:

Example for a +- 50m3 pool (8mx4m x1.5m deep)

StationSalt electrolysisLiquid chlorine
Salt / Products~55 CHF/year (2 bags of salt) during the season, and 8 bags or 200 CHF if the water is completely renewed~700-900 CHF/year (8 to 10 cans)
Cell electricity~80-120 CHF/yearN/A
Cell replacement~400-600 CHF every 5-7 yearsN/A

💡 O n average, a salt water chlorinator pays for itself in 2 to 3 seasons, thanks to product savings and time savings.

FAQ : Your questions about Automatic Processing

Salt or liquid chlorine: which solution to choose?

Salt electrolysis is ideal for private outdoor pools: soft water, minimal maintenance, environmentally friendly. Liquid chlorine is more suitable for indoor pools, spas or pools with salt-sensitive materials (natural stone coping, certain linings).

How much salt should I put in my pool?

Approximately 4 grams per liter, or 200 kg of salt for a 50 m³ pool. It’s 7 times less salty than seawater: you’ll hardly notice the taste. The salt doesn’t evaporate: you’ll only need to add more in the event of partial draining or heavy rain.

Does salt water damage the liner or hull?

No, at this concentration (4 g/L), salt does not damage liner, polyester shell or concrete. On the other hand, some natural stone copings may be sensitive: we check this point during the technical inspection.

Can an electrolyser be installed on an existing pool?

Yes, it’s quite common. Installation takes place in the equipment room, downstream of the filtration system. We adapt the system to your existing configuration.

How long does an electrolytic cell last?

Between 5 and 7 years on average for a Bayrol cell with polarity inversion. Service life depends on water hardness (limescale) and pool maintenance.

Does the Smart & Easy application work without WiFi in the machine room?

The unit’s touchscreen still works, even without WiFi. But for remote control and smartphone alerts, a stable WiFi connection to the equipment room is required.

Can Astro Piscines intervene remotely in the event of a problem?

Yes, as an authorized Bayrol installer, we have access to your system via the Smart & Easy app (with your authorization). We can diagnose a problem and guide you over the phone, often without having to travel.

Do I still need to test the water manually?

We recommend a monthly manual test (strips or photometer) to check that the probes are properly calibrated. This is a precaution, not an obligation.
