Why choose a bubble cover for your pool?
Heat your water naturally thanks to the greenhouse effect
The bubble cover (or isothermal cover) works like a greenhouse: it lets the sun’s rays through to warm the water, then traps this heat with its thousands of air bubbles. The result: you can gain several degrees of heat naturally, without energy consumption, and extend your swimming season by several weeks.
The RaeGuard range reduces heating costs by up to 57% compared with an uncovered pool.
Reduce evaporation and save water
An open-air pool loses up to 5 mm of water per day through evaporation in summer. The bubble cover forms a watertight barrier that drastically limits this phenomenon. This saves water, reduces the need for top-ups and maintains a stable water level in your pool – particularly appreciated during the hot summers in French-speaking Switzerland.
Limit debris and facilitate daily maintenance
Leaves, insects, pollen, dust… all these debris end up in your pool, putting a strain on the filtration system. By covering your pool when you’re not using it, the bubble cover considerably reduces impurities. Less cleaning, fewer chemicals, and crystal-clear water for longer.

How to use and care for your bubble tarpaulin
To make the most of your bubble tarpaulin and benefit from the APF guarantee, follow these essential instructions.
Installing and removing the tarpaulin
- Lay the bubble sheet down, with the smooth side facing the sky
- Remove the cover completely before each swim (risk of drowning).
- Remove cover when water temperature exceeds 28°C
- Keep the pool covered in windy conditions or when you’re away (to avoid heat loss).
Storage on reel with protective tarpaulin
- Always roll up the tarpaulin on a winder – never fold it.
- It must be protected with an opaque protective tarpaulin secured by sandovoiles (warranty condition).
- Never place the tarpaulin on the lawn (risk of burns).
- If you don’t have a winder, roll up the tarpaulin (don’t fold it) and store it in the shade after rinsing with clean water.
Water treatment and shock chlorine precautions
⚠️ Be sure to remove the tarpaulin during shock chlorination, and for 48 hours afterwards (risk of damage to bubbles).
Rates to preserve your tarpaulin:
| Parameter | Recommended value |
| pH | 7,0 à 7,6 |
| Free chlorine | 2.0 to 4.0 ppm |
| Combined chlorine | < 0.2 ppm |
| Total bromine | 4.0 to 6.0 ppm |
| Total alkalinity | 80 to 120 ppm |
| Calcium hardness | 150 to 400 ppm |
| Salt (salt pool) | 2500 to 4000 ppm |
A pH too low can compromise the longevity of the cover. Monitor chlorine levels frequently.
Winterizing your bubble tarpaulin
- Remove the bubble wrap in winter – it is not designed to withstand frost.
- Spray clean before storing
- Store frost-free, away from light.
- For winter, use a suitable filtering winter cover

FAQ – Frequently asked questions about swimming pool bubble covers
How many degrees do you gain with a bubble cover?
Depending on the amount of sunshine and the size of the pool, a bubble cover can save 3 to 8°C compared with an open-air pool. The effect is particularly marked at night, when it limits heat loss. The RaeGuard and translucent OXO models offer the best performance thanks to their optimized design.
What’s the difference between RaeGuard and OXO?
RaeGuard is the most durable range (8-season warranty) with a stiffer structure and smoother surface – ideal for intensive use or indoor pools. OXO uses patented bubble technology with +78% air volume for maximum insulation. The translucent OXO model maximizes heating power, while the blue OXO offers good balance and slightly limits algae.
Is it safe to swim with the bubble cover on?
No, absolutely not. The cover must be completely removed before swimming. Do not walk, lie down or swim under the cover – risk of drowning. It is not a safety device like a standard winter cover.
How long does bubble wrap last?
Lifespan depends on the model and compliance with maintenance instructions. RaeGuard is guaranteed for 8 seasons, OXO blue for 6 seasons and OXO translucent for 5 seasons. In practice, with a reel, a protective tarpaulin and balanced water treatment, you can exceed these times. Failure to comply with these instructions (shock chlorination, folding, storage in the sun) will invalidate the warranty.
Do I need a winder for my bubble wrap?
The roll-up system is highly recommended, and is a condition of the APF warranty. It facilitates daily handling (deployment and rolling up in just a few minutes), protects the cover from UV rays thanks to the protective tarpaulin, and prevents creases that damage the bubbles. It’s a profitable investment that considerably extends the life of your cover.
